Ron's writing and recording experience goes way back, actually before 1976 when he won semi-finalist in the American Song Festival with 'Trying To Write A Hit Song'. It would soon become his first gold record with it being recorded on their million-seller album, 'Player'. But he wrote and actually recorded his first song in 1969 when local radio started playing a ballad he'd written called 'Hard To See'. |
In the late 70's and early 80's, many of Ron's songs were signed by major music publishers such as Famous Music, Bourne Music, Touch Of Gold Music, while he was honing his production skills in Calgary's first multi-track studio and in other studios in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Los Angeles. The early 80's brought him to his own studio and his own label 'Heart Records' all the while recording and producing many award-winning commercial concepts for advertisers in western Canada.

During this time Ron also earned PRO Canada's prestigious Song of The Year Award for 'You Came Into My Life' in 1982 - recorded too by other artists from Canada to Europe, to South Africa's Kenny Oliver. |

When the financial crash came to Alberta, Ron found himself relocated to his native province of BC, in Kelowna, where his Media Workshop jingles and advertising concepts showered the airwaves throughout the Okanagan and beyond. Through the 90's he continued building his song catalogue with Brian Chater's Avenue Road Music Group (though Brian would later pass away from throat cancer in 2013 leaving that catalogue virtually in limbo for some time). Keen on learning 'new media', he soon moved to the west coast, partnering with the late great radio personality 'Bert Gordon' Fowell to form FM Productions, until Mahonin chose to move to Ottawa, then ground-central to the burgeoning Internet / new media boom. In Ottawa he 'moonlit' producing commercials / jingles until finishing his digital media courses to then finally relocate back to BC. |
Ron maintained a rather low key in audio production until putting together his own home studio in about 2010 when he started producing award-winning and nominated productions for other artists (from USA's Josie Awards, to Canada's Covenant Awards to USA's Roots Awards).

Re-awakening commercial endeavors with a new creative partner in 2018, Ron began songwriting again too, after a long hiatus with his own material. In 2020, Ron turned over his entire library of copyrights (well over 500 musical advertising concepts) to RPM Creations. Some of these musical radio concepts had become synonymous with varied advertisers - from high profile automobile dealerships to shopping centres, malls, chic boutiques to sports teams and store chains. In addition to producing newer collaborations for advertising and film/TV sync purposes, the team is concentrating efforts in songwriting both together and individually. As well, they're preoccupied in re-recording many of Ron's older material with an emphasis on the international markets which not too long ago, were nearly inaccessible. |
